Corporate Legal Liability Insurance

Corporate Legal Liability insurance offers protection to companies against claims arising from alleged wrongful acts committed in the course of business operations

Get in touch

Corporate Legal Liability insurance protects a company from claims made for wrongful acts.

It provides cover for legal costs, awards and settlements for any claim or regulatory action brought against the company (outside of claims that would normally be covered by Employers Liability, Public, Products, and Professional Indemnity), such as:

  • Breach of contract
  • Copyright infringement or other intellectual property
  • Corporate manslaughter
  • Cost of legal representation in respect of an official (HMRC) tax investigation
  • Anti-competitive behaviour

Please note there are exclusions. For example, a Corporate Legal Liability policy will not cover bodily injury claims.  These are covered under other types of policy such as Employers’ Liability, Public and Products Liability or Motor policies.

It’s common for a single legal claim to be made against both a company and its directors at the same time. Corporate Legal Liability covers the company, while Directors & Officers Liability covers the individuals. It is therefore important to have both types of cover in place under the same policy.

Corporate legal indemnity insurance policy features*

  • Legal costs, awards or settlements brought against the company
  • Access to experienced lawyers
  • Defence costs and damages awarded to the plaintiff
